HJ Mechtronic (New)

Background
Hans Jensen Lubricators A/S has, based on the well known cylinder lubrication systems and the increasing demands on the market for flexibility and possibility of electronic control, chosen to work with an electronic regulation, which steplessly adjusts the cylinder lube oil quantity supplied to the cylinder. HJ Mechtronic is still under development, but we expect to be able to carry out the first tests at sea soon.
Functionality
HJ Mechtronic can be specified for newbuildings and furthermore be retrofitted on an existing HJ Mechanical Cylinder Lubricator. The module being mounted contains a series of magnetic valves which are controlled by an electronic control unit. The electronic control unit makes it possible to control the cylinder lube oil quantity for each cylinder lubrication valve.
Flexibility
The electronic control unit in HJ Mechtronic makes it possible to control the cylinder lube oil quantity at each piston stroke. The regulation permits the application of known algorithms such as MEP and BHP regulation, but the customer can also define his own algorithms. This makes it possible to obtain better operation conditions for the cylinder, and savings in the cylinder lube oil consumption, especially on engines operating in the part load area. The system can furthermore be combined with HJ SIP Lubrication to obtain further savings.
Purpose
Hans Jensen Lubricators A/S is presently applying the finishing touches to a new product, which offers the implementation of electronic regulation of the cylinder lube oil on HJ Mechanical Cylinder Lubricators. The system is controlled for the entire engine or for each individual cylinder according to well known or customer defined regulation algorithms. This gives an increased flexibility with the possibility of optimising the cylinder lubrication and reducing the cylinder lube oil consumption.
System description
In order to apply HJ Mechtronic, an independent module is mounted directly on an existing HJ Mechanical Cylinder Lubricator. The installation is simple and is possible on both newbuildings and as retrofit on existing cylinder lubricators. This module contains magnetic valves for each cylinder lube point, which can lead the cylinder lube oil from one or more lube points back to the cylinder lubricator. In this way, the entire quantity of cylinder lube oil being pumped to the cylinder liner is controlled. The magnetic valves are controlled by an electronic control unit which is operated from a computer. The control units make calculations of all operations. The calculations are made based on signals which the control unit receives from a series of units mounted on the engine, in order to, among other things, detect the engine rpm, actual output and similar.
Design of module
The module is mounted on the existing pump block. During operation, the cam shaft operates the pump piston in the cylinder lubricator. When the cylinder lube oil is pumped into the chamber in front of the piston, the magnetic valve is activated. A magnetic valve for each cylinder lube point is mounted. When the magnetic valve is activated, it leads the cylinder lube oil through the module and back to the cylinder lubricator instead of to the valve. When the regulation is complete, the magnetic valve is released, whereby the cylinder lube oil is supplied to the valve again.

Maintenance
There is very little maintenance on HJ Mechtronic. The system is build to test itself, and inform of possible errors.
