For larger 2- and 4-stroke diesel engines it is necessary to test the fuel injectors after a specified amount of running time, to determine the performance of the injector. This includes tests like:
- Verification of Opening Pressure - determine the pressure needed to initiate injection through injector nozzle
- Calibration of Opening Pressure - calibrate/adjust the opening pressure while the injector is under pressure (4-stroke engine injectors only)
- Nozzle Leakage test - make sure nozzle is tight during idle time
- Injector Spray Pattern - inspect direction of jets as well as quality of atomising
- Non-return Valve Functionality

Hand-powered Hydraulic PowerPacks
MPU 1500
The MPU 1500 is a hand-powered pump intended for as a power supply hydraulic tools. The unit is powered by hand and delivers a maximum hydraulic pressure of 1500 bar. Compared to traditional hand-pumps, this unit has a protected gauge, a longer grip ensuring better stability, and an overall longer handle making it easier to pump the unit. It is available in a 1l and a 2.4l tank version.
MPU 2400
The MPU 1500 is a hand-powered pump intended for as a power supply hydraulic tools. The unit is powered by hand and delivers a maximum hydraulic pressure of 1500 bar. Compared to traditional hand-pumps, this unit has a protected gauge, a longer grip ensuring better stability, and an overall longer handle making it easier to pump the unit.

HPU 1500
The HPU 1500 is a traditional power supply for hydraulic tools. The unit can be powered by both air or by hand and delivers a maximum hydraulic pressure of 1500 bar. Suitable for 2- and 4-stroke engines.
HPU 1500.2
This traditional power supply for hydraulic tools delivers a maximum hydraulic pressure of 1500 bar and can be powered by air as well as by hand. The HPU 1500.2 has the special feature that it can also be used for the testing of certain fuel injectors. This high-flow version is intended for large-bore 2-stroke engines and for workshops / powerplants, where speed is of the essence.
Air-powered Hydraulic PowerPacks
HPU 1500 Compact
A very compact air-powered PowerPack intended as an upgrade for 4-stroke engines onboard or at powerplants, as well as a lightweight pump for workshops to bring along for on-board jobs. Due to the design, the power from this unit is not enought to power 2-stroke engine tools.
HPU 2250
The HPU 2250 is a very powerful hydraulic power supply for larger engines. The unit can be used for opening SKFcouplings and powering of hydraulic tools etc. The unit is powered by air, and delivers a maximum hydraulic pressure of 2250 bar.
HPU 2250 S
This powerful power supply for the hydraulic tools supplied for smaller SULZER RTA/RT-flex engines (up to 72 cm bore), features an unique low-pressure mode for safe operation of 500 bar tools. The unit is powered by air and delivers a maximum hydraulic pressure of 2250 bar.
HPU 2250-2 S
The HPU 2250-2 S is a twin-pump hydraulic power supply for larger SULZER RTA/RT-flex engines. The unit can be used for the operation of hydraulic tools, the opening of SKF couplings etc. The unit is powered by air and delivers a flow up to 2 l/min and a maximum hydraulic pressure of 2250 bar.
HPU 2250-2
This twin-pump hydraulic power supply can be used on MAN B&W engines equipped with the 1500 bar tool series. The unit can be used with hydraulic tools, for opening of SKF couplings etc. The unit is powered by air and delivers a flow up to 2 l/min and a maximum hydraulic pressure of 2250 bar.
HPU 2800-2
The HPU 2800-2 is a twin-pump hydraulic power supply, designed for fast operation of highpressure tool series, providing up to 2800 bar hydraulic pressure at 7 bar air inlet pressure. The unit is approved for all MAN B&W engine types equipped with MAN B&W 1750 & 2200 bar tool series.
HPU 3500-2
This hydraulic power supply with twin-pumps is designed for fast operation of MAN B&W’s new 2200 bar tool series, providing a high hydraulic pressure even at low air inlet pressure. The unit is approved for all MAN B&W engine types, and also operates all other maritime hydraulic tool series from other vendors.

VPA 1100-5
The VPA 1100-5 is the 2010 follow-up to our state-of-the-art VPA 1100-4. It is an injection valve test unit designed especially for large fuel-injector workshops.The VPA 1100 series is today installed in more than 30 larger workshops worldwide, along with accessories for easier injector maintenance
VPA Features
The unit has several special features including:
Touch panel for easy and fast operation of the PLC controlled test rig
Create and store different injector programs with individual data acceptance range, turning on/off individual tests etc.

Correct testing: An enhanced version of the IOP Marine Safe-Test technology developed for testing of MAN Diesel Slide-Valve fuel injectors is used for controlling of many of the tests. Along with the on-screen help system operators will always test injectors in a correct and reproducable way.
Windows / Mac / Linux connectivity: The test results can be transferred to any type of PC using the built-in USB port and the information can be used electronically as documentation. Test results are transferred as MS Excel files.
VPA Injector Compatibility
The VPA 1100 series is compatible with almost all traditional 2- and 4-stroke fuel injectors (excl. RT-flex, where a VPU 500 is required), and we do today have injector valve holders for more than 150 different injector types. In case you are working with injectors which we do not have in our programme, we will forward our standard questionnaire and make one for you, if needed.
As of 2010 all existing and new VPA's can be upgraded with the capability to test electronic injectors as well. As of the VPA 1100-5, this functionality can be built-in from the beginning as an option.

PPMI 1000 adaptor - for correct testing of MAN Diesel Slide Valve Fuel Injectors

The PPMI 1000 is an upgrade designed for IOP Marine / Ib Obel Pedersen VPU 1100 test rigs, allowing a traditional analog test rig to test MAN Diesel slide-valve fuel injectors correctly.
The IOP SafeTest Technology (Patent Pending) is the only way to make sure that MAN Diesel slide-valve fuel injectors cannot be damaged during testing and overhaul.
Compatibility
The PPMI 1000 unit can be fitted on traditional air-powered test rigs from IOP Marine - Obel-P-Products, Ib Obel Pedersen, HANMI Hydraulic, Daixin, Woo Am, Nagao, Lushi and other Asian manufacturers supplying traditional test rig solutions. The manual covers basic installation for any kind of air-powered fuel injector test rig.
PPMI 1000 - retrofit for exisng installations
The PPMI 1000 is the only solution available for the testing of slide fuel valves with a traditional Obel-P or 3rd party test rig, while it features an automatic Slide Valve Fuel Injector protection system (Patent Pending). The unit has numerous features:
- Atomisation test cannot be executed by mistake.
- Opening pressure test performed correctly.
- Precise digital read-out (± 1 bar).
- Separate display for data collection (opening/venting pressure).
- Can be mounted on all test rigs.
The PPMI 1000 is supplied with a detailed installation guide and all parts needed for installation. Installation takes less than 20 minutes and can be done by the onboard crew.
Test Rig Air Purification - Oil mist separator (for use with VPU / VPUD test rig)

An aerosol of oil mist is produced when injectors are tested. And no matter the test medium, such aerosols are not desirable in the air that you breathe and work in.
The oil mist separator completely replaces the need for traditional air suction systems and can be installed onboard newbuildings as well as retrofitted for existing IOP installations. The Oil Mist Separator is attached directly to the IOP fuel injector valve holder and is powered by the same air that powers your test rig, making installation a very simple task.
The air extracted from the test chamber on a VPU unit is condensed in the filter, making it possible to re-use the condensed oil mist for future testing. The purified air is clean enought to fulfill the strict requirements set forth by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA) among others, and can be ejected to the surrounding air without further cleaning. It is also possible to attach a pipe and lead the purified air outside, if desired. Oil mist separator solutions are available for both ships and workshops, and compared to traditional ventilation systems, the IOP Oil Mist Separator is both inexpensive and small, and it does not require any special skills to install.
The solution has been tested and approved by the Danish Maritime Authority (DMA), and is installed onboard more than 150 vessels under danish flag.
